Anyone know about carbon offsetting, particularly for air travel?

I’m taking a couple of long haul flights soon.

Which is quite problematic for me from an environmental point of view. But I am doing it.

A quick google shows that my return flight will have an equivalent of 5 tonnes CO2 emissions per person.

I need to offset this in some way. Anyone know a good organisation to do this through? And whether this kind of offsetting is meaningful?

most airlines offer an “offset CO2 Emissions” option.

Thanks, the tickets were already booked by someone else, who I guess didn’t notice it.

Carbon retirement seems a neat way of doing it: http://www.carbonretirement.com/

They buy EU Emission Allowances (EUAs) and put them permanently out of use.

Found this but I haven’t used it before http://www.carbonfootprint.com/offset.aspx?o=5
