American Walnut for Box

Tags: #<Tag:0x00007fa499a1dd68>

Hello all,

I’m looking for a local supplier, or even any online one of American Walnut for a small keepsake box I’m working on. Most of the online suppliers I’ve found have minimum order, which is waaaay over what I’m willing to spend; so a point of the right direction would be grateful.

Thanks guys.

Chris

Have a look in the offcut bin at a timber yard maybe ?
I picked up a small bit of walnut half price at whitten timber in peckham last year (they have sinced down sized though)

Have you tried eBay?

Searching ‘walnut board’ brings up a bunch of results.

Hi @RichM, to be honest I have no idea why I didn’t look on eBay from the start. I’ll check now, thanks chap.

Written timber has a great offcuts bin, and will do what you need for small change and a nice smile

How small? I’ve found hobbycraft hard wood selection excellent value. My last pack had 10x box worthy walnut pieces 5mm thick and 20x8cm.
I think they are a tenner.

There’s an offcuts shop in Essex if you’re ever out that way which has a hugely impressive array of offcuts, figured timber and unusual peices, aimed at the semi professional and amateur woodworker. Can dig out their instagram details.

Please fire it my way dude!

Sounds good. Remember the website?

Good stuff. Apparently their business model is:

  1. run kitchen company for fifteen years, setting aside anything which isn’t dead straight grain as customers don’t want it
  2. Sell all those offcuts and rejects to woodworkers
  3. ???
  4. Profit
