Advice for wiping a HHD - still DBAN?

Need to wipe a PC before it’s given away – years ago I remember using DBAN

Is it still good, or should I take a different approach?

I have found just water and a microfibre cloth is good, … great for windows too!!

If you can hook it up to a current/recent windows PC they upped their game reasonably recently by adding flags to the old ‘format’ command that let you repeatedly overwrite sectors with random numbers which is secure (I recommend 4 passes tho).

and use something like
Format (Drive letter): /P:4

Check “Format /?” if you are unsure if your windows is sufficiently patched and look for mention of random numbers against the /p flag (It was previously strings of zeros which was less so).
