Soldering iron on electronics bench not working

The digital temperature-controlled soldering iron on the electronics bench seems to have given up the ghost. The tip doesn’t get hot and the screen just displays “5-E” as the “real” temperature no matter what value you select for “set”. Presumably 5-E is an error code.

I believe this is the second of two of this model that we have had which has gone wrong? We should really try and get a set of reliable irons as a matter of urgency, as it seems that we are currently unable to do any soldering, which the whole activity of electronics really hinges on.

I agree we should get better ones, but I think you’ve overlooked the probability that this one is the same as the first broken one.

FYI: The other one is on the table above at the back, give it a go, and I will ask @tomnewsom to buy us a couple of new irons.

Yes, you are right. The good iron had been packed away and the bad iron was out on the desk.

Regardless I’ve asked the Directors to order a new and better iron.

The order is being made as we speak

Thanks
