How to use the 3D printer in the cold

Tags: #<Tag:0x00007fa4a38b32e8>

I have not used the printer it just seemed to work better so i figured that a tempritur controled environment would make it better but if the regular users don’t want it so be it not a problem , and i wasn’t going to do anything without consolting everyone .

This is an important principle. Members agree to use the tools as laid out in the relevant WiKi. This is for safety and longevity of people and equipment.

It is not a ‘suggestion’.

If we don’t hold firm this we’ll likely have a whole heap of out of order tools on no time.

Already: laser lens damaged, circular saw damaged (dropped and not reported?)…

We are all learning here, of course. But we’re learning some painful stuff we don’t need to learn

So let’s work within what we know, and stretch it when we have the experience and evidence?

To be clear: if members want to use a material not on the list, then the process is to research and make the case for that material.

Hi All,

Sorry, my bad, I remembered that one of the two was apparently slightly poisonous, so I looked up which it was (apparently PLA produces ultrafine particles) and so sourced the other. Then I checked the printed out manual, which seemed to suggest that ABS works.

The wiki seems to have been shut down (try it http://wiki.southlondonmakerspace.org/Main_Page ) , so I went with what I could remember from the induction- that we were to use the less poisonous material, and in 3mm.

Is there any word on when the Wiki will be up again?

The wiki is dead forever. All documentation now lives (and can be edited and created) here: https://discourse.southlondonmakerspace.org/c/space

@Rory_Yeung You’ve got it the wrong way round, it’s ABS that is worse for UFPs not PLA.

Ah. OK, I’ll be sure to use the other Acronym in future. Sorry about that.
